today I bought a new road frame and forks and some bars. weight weenie project II begins  modern and carbon I'm afraid!

so whats a good weight then? How much does your tri bike weigh?

Tri bike is 19.3lbs or summat, it makes no real concession for weight though. This one I hope to get to 16.XXlbs, fully geared of course. So far according to manufacturers weights the frame is 1100g the fork 390g the headset 62g and a pair of bars 230g. All very light for the money :) I'll use my old wheels for just now(1520g for the pair).

I remembered how much I hate fitting and adjusting rear mechs

Put the rear mech on the frame minus the chain but with the wheel fitted.
Squint along the chainline from the rear and move the mech to the smallest cog so that the upper jockey wheel is just to the right of the smallest cog(About 1mm) and tighten down stop screw. Do the same for biggest cog, you dont want the chainline moving more than a mm beyond the cog or it'll throw the chain. This advice is based on Shimano's excellent instruction you get with a new mech.
Fit the chain and gearcable (if not fitted already) and started mucking about with cable tension untill you get the indexing just right (indexing is the black art) making sure cables are well oiled(not grease for gear cables) to prevent static friction.

Hope this helps Tazio but remember our Dunkeld/Pitlochry run is one of our technically/physically easiest runs that is easily single speedable for most folk ;)

aaah , i see what you did there zz

fancy a wee spin up my hill this avo ?
my house 1 ish ?

were gonna throw sticks at the gliders again ;)

I wish, I'll be pushing bytes all day. I think we need a mikee run some time in Feb though....

Cracking day for it, and the weather's looking good for the weekend too. Enjoy.

My gear indexing is a bit like Gordon Brown as prime minister, I know all the theories and techniques I need, but somehow it just never quite happens for me.
