And today I did......

Yesterday I went to Glasgow for lunch, very nice. Was meant to see Tron 3D but couldn't get in :( Today I went out for lunch again! I'm now trying to learn the art of log fire fire making in my new log fire.

WOW the concern for kids by todays parents

How on earth did we live past childhood. My first bike and successive parent bought bikes had steel rims, leather faced brake blocked caliper brakes and hard rubbered tyres. No helmets or reflective clothing or elbow/knee pads. On top of which my father admitted he never did any maintenance on my or my brothers bikes. Result i came a gnats whisker away from dying beneath the chromed bumper of a MkIII Ford Cortina aged 9 or so when my brakes failed on the aproach to a junction

Changed days indeed :D

Soundtrack really is superb, all the good bits of Daft Punk with none of the annoyingness. First half is great, although it kind of tails off in the 2nd half - absolutely georgeous looking in 3D (as is the girl).

Only thing that really annoyed me was the young Jeff Bridges - his mouth when he was talking, they just didn't get it right, it looked like someone else's mouth grafted on, bit weird.

I can mind having steel rims and leather brake blocks, jeez they were fecking lethal in the wet. We certainly learned how to take care of ourselves, too many of today's bairns have no perception of what is dangerous and what is just exciting fun.

My Dad didn't need to do much maintenance on my bike or my brother's because we learned how to do it ourselves from when we were given bikes. His advice was always helpful though.

On the other hand my daughters don't do anything to their bikes, that's my job I suppose, although my youngest is quite mechanically minded. Maybe when she is 12/13 she'll be more interested, but probably not.

Let's knock this on't head right now...

Leather brake blocks? Luxury! When I were lad, I used to have t'use me feet to stop. Bare feet mind, my father had no truck with those new-fangled shoe things.

Bare feet ye say? We used t' wish we could brake with our bare feet... Parents would chop our feet off (every day mind) sprinkle the stumps with carpet tacks, and we'd have to use our tackety stumps to slow us down.

Stumps! Stumps? We dreamed off stopping our bikes with stumps. Our parents lived at top of t' steepest hill in Britain, and used to use our faces to slow them down on their tandem made of bricks and lead. And the roads in those days were mostly broken glass and circular saw blades. AND they used to grate our noses and lips off to add to the black pudding.

And if you tell kids that today... etc.

Stumps, bikes?

Luxury!

Our dad would use our heads as wheels for his bike and we would be damn glad of the privilege. Oh yes, he would stuff his size fifteen hobnail boot in our gobs to stop when he were going down 1 in 2 hill t'mill to do his 28 hour shift. We would be left outside under t'broken drain pipe for hours on end.

They'd never believe us!
