Making a start on getting the Stumpie ready for Cannock today. The bike is in amazing condition. All parts are unmarked and as new; even the original brake blocks are showing zero wear.
However, the paint is showing signs of being knocked about in lofts and garages for the best part of 30 years. The top tube, seatstays and firk blades are very poor. So, two hours of sifting through colour chips this morning to get a match that i was happy with, before stripping it down to make a start this afternoon.
I'm going to flat out the chips and scratches and scotch the whole frame. A little primer before painting the worst affected tubes completely (the benefit of a lugged frame is it makes masking easier), whilst the smaller scratches will be touched in with an airbrush before laquering the whole lot.
Quick clean and polish of the parts and it should look factory fresh again.
I might start a build thread if i find time.
