And today I did......

Went swimming in a lake in the middle of an industrial estate in the rain

Got a bottle of brake fluid and a pedros torx doodah from CRC after remembering my excuse for not doing another lap at 10UTB.

And to top it off tonight was hot dog night :D which is eating before the filth starts.

Did some build work on my folder. The press-fit headset is obviously press fit in a Sheffield Forgemasters sense, requiring 1000 tonnes of press.

Using all the skills developed from designing instrumentation to measure at the micron level I came up with this:

It handily employed the studding and nut I had found on the way home from the pub one night, but I had to BUY another nut, and 10 washers as they only sold them in tens. I was about to complain until I found that the total bill was 46p.

It worked, eventually, but I fear stress fractures from the head tube.

Also sprayed my forks in a sophisticated spray booth:

And then ballsed up the paint job for this build-in-progress picture as the paint was still soft. Bollocks. I've always been crap at spray painting.

Build is looking okay to me, folding with a hint of retro functionality.

Nice Dahon

I too have been spray painting after laboriously paint stripping and scraping my very scruffy and elderly Spesh Hardrock frame.

Couldn't decide on a final colour but after applying grey undercoat I have decided I like grey and gloss grey is available at Homebase
Final result will probably be poor as per my usual efforts but a grey generalized will amuse Mikee if nowt else ;)

Totally forgot to bid on a nice Marin Alpine Trail frame with Mount Vision rear. Really annoyed, went for £32

Bike ready, carbs loaded, bags packed, food & drink prepped for tomorrow. Gah, I hate early starts.

Re. paint stripping, I had good results on my forks, both in terms of speed and finish, using a Stanley knife to scrape/pare off the bulk of the paint, then taking it to the bare metal using a wire brush thingy in an electric drill.

In a similar vein, you can howk out a neepy lantern in about five minutes using a kitchen door hinge cutter in a cordless drill.

And remove stubborn grease on your chainset etc using graphite lubricant spray, as the solvent in it dissolves grease like nobody's business. Which you would think would be counterproductive for a lubricant, and is why I'm using 3-in-1 on my chain again.

More top tips when I think of them, or make them up.

well i done nothing (yesterday now) was off work all week and only went out the house to get battries for the wii controller

today

Well yesterday I went to T in the park.
Editors, Faithless and Florrence and the machine were stonkin'.
Gave our tickets to our son so that he could go with his sister, cousin and a friend today.
We will be back there for tomorrow's over indulgence :D

Dave.
