Don't you think the old Cologne is a bit of a boat anchor? Heavy, underpowered and expensive to tune? Wouldn't a turbo Cosworth be a better idea? 300bhp can be easily and cheaply found. Still a heavy-ish engine but not as heavy as the 2.8.
The RWD Gartracs always worked better with a lighter motor up front and mounted as far back in the bay as possible. They can suffer from understeer which turns to snap oversteer if they have too much weight up front.

faffed about with wheels ,tyres tubes and a pair of scales
managed to loose 1.5 lb from the s/s gt need to get a full bike weight
yet but 20lbs isn't wide of the mark

You need to start racing your SS steeds, I'm off to Forest of Dean on Thursday for SS Euro Champs and Strathpuffer Lite in June for Scottish SS Champs and maybe SSUK champs in Wales in August.

I think with all the cheap crap fitted to my Trek 8500 currently its about 25 lb, now if I fitted nice wheels and quality stem, bars, seatpost etc I might get it down to 20 lbs, now there is a challenge. ;)
 
I stopped worrying about the weight of my bike after I got married and seemed to put on 2 stone almost instantly through having big meals cooked for me.

So if I was to get back to my wiry 11.5 stone I would shed effectively a bikes worth of weight...
 
Third nightride in a row. Crap night though. Couldn't get into the groove, messing up, failing on climbs and took a big stack on the tarmac. Taken the skin off my shoulder and knee and will be bruised in the morning. Bike fine though which is much more important :LOL:

Need to get it stripped, cleaned and rebuilt for Saturdays ride now. Looking forward to a couple of days in the lakes. Steady evening ride on Friday followed by pub then a big epic oldskool ride on the Saturday. Even the weather looks good.
