it's not so much the damage col, it's the frankly p*sh poor quality that irks, i mean, 20 miles, and it's through to the metal?!

if it had happened after 200 miles at least i wouldn't feel so cheated!!
Aye it's pretty poor really, you would think that Shimano would at least sell them with protective tape on the arms if they are that delicate eh.

Re:

i was gonna order a kit from eBay for a fiver, but told myself a wee twenty miler won't do any harm first........

Re:

Unfortunately this seems to be a common problem with the new xtr. I'd just read a review of the new XT where they reckoned the cranks were better because of this. I suppose you could just accept it, it'll make a nice patina eventually which I kinda like on a bike.

Re:

well a little too much spare time today as the wife is out doing the xmas rounds meant i could sneak the bike in to see what i could do with the cranks.....

the coating is so thin that if i tried to polish the scratches out it would just go through to the metal, so i decided the way to hide it was a quick flash over with some lacquer.

touched in the scuff mark on the non-drive side first, masked them up, and gave them both a blast!

quite pleased with the results

once the clear vinyl crank protectors go on i think it should almost disappear :xmas-cool:
