My accommodating wife did this with a Posca Uniball paint pen in gold...

That looks really good, if I'd known it was possible to get results like this with a pen I'd have thought twice about paying to have it done professionally.

It's suddenly occured to me...when my father in law talked of Ernie Clements, could he have been referring to Coventry Eagle? Look at the head tube lugs- are they not eagle-like?

I have a 1952 Ernie Clements Ercall road bike with frame number 3310. The frame is identical to yours. The rear dropouts are unmistakably Clements, and the seat stay caps are identical to mine. Beautiful bike.
