Falcon Help

Retro Newbie
Can someone identify this Falcon, year and model. It has fancy chromed lugs, slopped fork, Campy drop outs, flattened wrap around seat stay. It has the red head tube paint and team blue on the rest. Double butted Reynolds and no fender mounts. I believe this all indicates a higher end San Remo Equipe or team replica.

I think Mandobob may have been looking for similar.

Much thanks.

It is probably 1972/73. Without its original components with dates on, it is difficult to be specific. The frame numbers can sometimes be of some help but there is no definitive factory record of frame numbers for Falcons. This frame is a little unusual in that it doesn't have the usual lugs which are long point. However I have seen other ones with these lugs which tend to be early 70s-ish.

P.S. It is definitely a model 76 San Remo Equipe.
Thanks for the help identifying this frame!

Sorry for late reply. I had some issues which kept me from getting back here for too long.

I’ve seen somewhere that these lugs could be custom ordered. The all chrome fork was a 72/73 offering if I’m recalling correctly.

The frame has a few large areas of paint damage and areas where an attempt has been made to touch them up. I’m wondering what your thoughts are on a respray.

I’m torn as it’s mostly original paint and decals, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a pristine paint job on this special frame?

I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Attached photos show the worst of the paint damage.

Thanks.

Its a lovely frame, but if you want to retain the fancy chromework on the lugs (very desirable) , then a repaint is going to be non trivial, plus this is an early model with the 'proper' riveted head tube badge - again tricky work to remove/replace - so I think the paint job will cost £££ - for inspiration - check out this resto https://www.flickr.com/photos/65214324@N02/albums/72157647557844981/
I opted for a far simpler powder coat job on a similar age Olympic and it came out stunning - however cost was kept low by not re-instating the chromework on the fork. Since you have the nicer butted 531 tubing and campy dropouts, this frame is ultimately worth more - but the cost of the repaint is going to be the factor to wrestle with. All the decals are available via H Lloyd btw - the ones that wrap the frame are a bit of a mare to fit.
