Why do the Americans so often not ship abroad?

Don't get me wrong, this isn't a yank bashing...I (increasingly, unlike a lot of my countrymen) don't have a chip on my shoulder about America and really like the place and it's natives. Would jump at the chance to live there (if as a British I wasn't one rung from the bottom of the ladder above Al Qaeda and they'd let me... :roll: ).

But nearly every auction I fancy over the pond is US ONLY.

Is it a fear of the outside? Makes you feel like you're unloved and worse, untrusted when one asks again and again, only to be rejected again and again. I feel I need to let the sellers know the outside world is just a stamp away and they'll get a lot more $$$ if they open their arms wide...

We're all just one big happy cycley family aren't we? Can we all have a big hug please?

:D

It can seem a lot more hassle shipping abroad, could be fears over payment reclaims if things go missing down to filling out a customs form, alot only ship to the 48 "mainland" states too.

I've been in a USPS office, I'm surprised anyone sends anything to be honest, I thought our queues were bad.

There are countries I wouldn't ship to, sellers choice.

They read Retrobike, and your reputation says it all !! :LOL:

Who is going to carry Wu's socks on the next ride ?

I know it's the seller's right and choice etc, just so frustrating sometimes. I mean I've had loads of grief off Italians through ebay but it doesn't stop me selling to Italy. I Love Italy.

It just seems a bit insular.

Insular = bad.

Insular + superpower = scary bad.

Anyway, going to have to ask one of your lot to help. And that just goes to show how friendly RBer's are. :D

My lot? you won't get anything out of scotland now you have called me american :)

I was over there with work, back home in sunny scotland now.

And don't be misled by Mr Rabbits location.

:LOL:

yes should've aimed that more at an actual American. I can see that now. :LOL:

I generally never have a problem. All you've got to do is lie;

You are an American service man working in the UK on a US airbase.
God bless America.
God bless God
and
God Bless America.

Normally does the trick. You've got to play to their tune. ;)

P.S. Also say if you get it tracked (so you know it's posted) and it goes missing, you won't claim against them, you'll claim against the postal service.

P.P.S. God bless america!

Next time I'll say I'm a CIA guy on deep cover operating in an Al Qaeda cell.... :D

Plus some dumb ebay questions:
Does it have braze-ons for explosives and an AK-47?

it boils down to sellers holding all the responsibility of the sale. international buyers don't want high shipping costs and sellers don't want stuff uninsured going overseas. the buyer holds all the cards in todays ebay world so sellers try and minimize the risk.

Ha! I've said exactly the same thing.
