30 years ago this coming Christmas, my bike was stolen during the only burglary I’ve ever had. 16 year old Samiamcycling was devastated that my first ‘proper’ mountain bike was stolen….
Today, thanks to wonderful people on the internet who helped find, sell, store and transport the bike, I have another Alpinestars Al-mega DX!
I was going to do a factory fresh restoration, but you know what? 16 year old Samiamcycling would have upgraded if he had kept it long enough (or earned enough!), so I’m making the bike he would have wanted.
Purists will hate it: XT 730 series 8 speed upgrade (mostly), Answer hyperlite and bar ends. I’ve lost the muscle memory for toe clips. Gotta remember to pull back, not twist!
I’m re-covering the Original Avocet saddle, so the red is only temporary, and I’ll remove the canti hangers when I get my hands on some headset wrenches. Haven't needed any of those for decades!
Before and after pics attached. I'm sure it will evolve. Now if I can only get my hands on some threaded 1 1/4 Mag 21s....
