Alpine Stars cro-mega DX frame, stem, bars, etc - ALL GONE

This the one I was meant to get from brat (something) from Germany .

It think it might be. I had no idea the storm I created when I bought it. I was only up late at night as my son was unwell and I spent most if it looking after him, and boredom drove me on to the forum when I saw it for sale. A PM later I was told it was still available, so sent payment over. I'd no idea it was spoken for until I checked the thread in the morning and saw your comments.

No worries was cheesed of at time but all cool now. I am 6ft 2 so sounds like it would have been to big for me anyway. ;)

I'm 6ft (just under) and it is a tad too big for me, so would say at 6ft 2 this would fit well.

I've had the same problem as you have in the past, and it is annoying, in fact today I got a PM saying that the brakes I was after were sold (pending) despite me asking for pics, then after seeing them, a final price (not that I got a response), and this was almost a week after I had done it. A quick check of the for sale thread shows that in between me asking for a price posted, and today he had dropped the price as he had obviously had not had any takers (except me), so go figure?

I'm interested mate but am worried about the damage. Looks like the steel has split down the tube. Is this the case? What has been suggested to fix it? :?

Hi there, I don't think the steel has split down the seat tube, between the stays. I've just had a torch shining down the tube, and I think I can safely say that it is not a crack between the seat stays, but a deformity caused by whever tried to remove the post that was at some point stuck in the tube. There is also evidence of the offending post a way down the tube (quite a way I should say).

I've not really had any formal quotes on the work, though the post I added about viability of repair seems to indicate that it would not be a big job. Not being a welder or engineer, I'm no expert, but I think that all this would need would be some heat to reshape the tube a touch, and a bit of weld to fill the horizontal slit as seen in the pics. If it was my size, I think I would have got it done, but it is too big for me sadly. I may have also taken the opportunity to have the whole from resprayed.

Did you follow the link to the thread I posted about the repair? It seems that these frames were renowned for this type of injury.

Ian
