It turns out that the Reynolds 501 frame of the Dave Quinn mountain bike, kindly karma'd to me by @KondratievsBike (separate thread here: https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/a-tale-of-two-dave-quinns.465155/) was made for Dave by Orbit Cycles, one of the frame builders he worked with.

Dave kindly confirmed this in the course of me trying to track down the builder of the 531-framed bike in the other thread.

This one is most likely a 1989 bike as kitted out with Exage Mountain.

Made by Orbit means it's a very close relative (brother? cousin?) of the Orbit Frontier. More photos to come on the other thread as I clean it up and recommission it.

It's been the easiest detective work imaginable. I emailed The Bike Factory at their general sales email address and Dave Quinn emailed me back next day. Top bloke!

Can anyone shed some light on the Orbit Excel Dura-Ace I have? it's Reynolds 753 and late 80's I'd say. I used all the parts on another build, but I'm thinking of having the frame restored.

Hi everybody

I was hoping I could get some info on this Orbit frame. I've been riding it for around a year now, it's been my town/pub bike and has served me well. Recently I've been thinking about respraying it, but before I did I just wondered if anybody knew anything about the history of it.
