It's just stunning, but have to say. the zip tied on Crud catcher????? :cry: :cry: If I'd gone to no doubt the amount of trouble and detail you have, I would have the proper mounts installed, a la Orange etc. They're going to scuff up the stunning paint in no time.

Thanks mate, it was important to me that i kept the frame unchanged from its original state (ie no modifications).

I have had a terrible time trying to show the tubing profile in the pictures to be fair, you have to see it in the flesh to fully appreciate how svelte it actually is, the tubing profile is quite something, and to be fair quite thin in places.

If a zip tied crud catcher was used BITD, i was happy to do it again, i certainly didnt feel confident to even contemplate putting holes in it.

Excellent work there Carl, your attention to detail is simply amazing you have certainly researched every single detail and imagine your scrap book collection to be immense

Do you have any pics of the frame as you got it ? was it the same black and white or has Garry's paint man reproduced the detailing from pictures ?

I wish my scrap book was full, every shred of Hardisty info is posted, and im hoping that now its built more people will come forward with info and details, the more info we can collect on the early days of the english bike scene the better....

thankfully we had the original paint to go by, so refinishing it was made a little easier, and although it was (as you would expect) trashed, at least we had the sizes of the smaller decals like headbadge, top tube badge etc to work with.

What did surprise me, when i first aquired it, was the black sections were paint, i expected this to be a panel decal, much in the same way as a Bontrager frame. but it wasnt it was paint....

I'm a huge fan of replica and tribute builds. That thing is super clean. Well done.

AmyBrook, it pales into insignificance in comparison to what you have achieved with your C26.

What tyres did you go for in the end mate?

To be honest Gio, it came to a collective decision in the end, as did most of the spec choice to be fair,

after speaking to a lot of people, no one could give me a definitve answer to a build spec sheet.

Ideally we needed Jim for this, but despite multiple attempts at trying to contact him, i am ashamed to say all my attempts failed.

So to enable the build to complete, a collective opinion on the spec was reached, from peoples memories, photos and pictures from magazines.

As with all PRO/AM racers, specs change quickly, it wears out, it breaks etc..., so we went with the information we have.

the build spec in the non disc wheel pics, are mainly Shimano deore XT, with mavic 231 rims, tioga finishing kit, flite saddle, ODI attack grips, onza bar ends etc, with the Panaracer Smoke and Dart tyre combination.

the disc wheel build, is all but the same, but using Specialized BX23 rims, with black Shimano Deore XT hubs, Grafton cranks with Tioga chainrings, to complement the Tioga finishing kit, and Grafton Brakes.

It was decided that "At best Guess" the tyres would have been either Panaracer Smoke and Dart, and/or Tioga Mud Dawgs....which are pictured mounted to the disc wheel option.

I still have a niggle in me that said, Specialized Ground controls were used, but others disagreed and left me the minority opinion, and with little else to go on, i ran with the general collective opinion.

yeh sorry the pics arent brilliant, i took them yesterday, some are quite blurry to be fair, but i had crappy light, and a micky mouse camera.

Not how it should have been photographed, but i wanted it finished in the month of August, to me, the timing made it a fitting tribute.

CAN I ASK DOES ANYONE HAVE A COPY OF MBUK FROM BITD....(either august or september 17 years ago)

Great work as always Carl - very nice indeed. Those specialised rims must have taken some finding.

Super special bike - I would love to know more about the build, where you found the frame, in what state etc etc....

One small point though if I may be so bold..... please sort the set up on those rear m734s - the straddle wire is too long I think.

whether it does well or not, it was important to me that it got finished this month, once i realised the significance, and it dawning on me it was this month 17 years ago he passed away.

We shall have to have a beer sometime, it is quite a long story, that is quite embarrassing for a couple of people concerned, me included as i bought the wrong one to start with....

I have Darren to thank for the rims,...

Brake preference and set up--- Im sure we are all different on this to be fair, i like my low profile cantilever on the rear tucked in, right out of the way of my heels, and massive feet.. the brake cable is new and will stretch and settle with use, but as they sit at the moment, they are taught, tite, firm and on or off, just the way i like them, thankfully both sets of wheels are true within an inch of there life, so i can run them close.

Anyway why do we need brakes, arent we all still racers at heart.....lol.

How is the Orange Formula coming along, did you manage to source the correct tubes....? I am keen to see this finished and another rare uk steel frame saved from extinction.

How about the Dave Yates D.o.n.k.i.s. K.n.o.b.....any further progress...?

Or the Dave Lloyd C.a.t.s. w.h.i.s.k.a.s......any more news...?

Mate to be fair, you have a lot of very special frames yourself, please keep me updated.
