Age correct headset on retro saracen

Fastoval

Retro Newbie
Morning all ,
I’m new to the group and just in the process of restoring a 1995 Saracen Kili comp and a 1993 Saracen Trekker, just thinking they are both needing headsets …. Any suggestions for something period? ..
I was looking at the Tange -Seiki J27 or would Chris King be too new for the year ?
Thanks in advance !!

Chris King has been going for donkeys years so would be suitable for either. If you wanted to be period correct then it needs to be the old no logo version.

If you are worried about period correct, then you'd be looking at nos or used things like Tioga or Ritchey.

Sealed bearing headsets are much newer than the ball and cage affairs of old.

Depends on how much you want to spend, a king will set you back a fair wedge, and no disrespect, will be more value than either of the frames.

I used one of the ones lgf linked to on a bike built for a mate on a budget and it's been absolutely fine now for a couple of years.

If you want to spend a bit more, hope are I would say equal to a king but much cheaper, well they used to be, gap is narrowing a bit.

We had sealed way back then too.

I just go for a nice looking aheadset that was cheap enough.
Look for designs that look like the style there

1995 Saracens used a Tioga competition aheadset (silver), this being the mid/low end of the range bike depending on how you see it,
Also I don't think it is 199 as they had normal dropout, not that newer Ritchey design iirc ?

A 1993 would have a Tioga Alchemy (so caged balls) aheadset.
You sure that's a Trekker ?
