Advice on UK courier services

Hi all,

I'm looking to ship a frame out to a fellow RetroBiker within the UK. Just looking for some advice on which courier companies offer a good service & reasonable price that you've used?

Thanks for any advice given!
Chris

Re:

Hi Chris,

Hermes appears to be a popular carrier, not used them myself but I have had items delivered via this site and i've had no issues as yet. I use the Post Office because it's a 2 minute walk away.
I'm sure there'll be other recommendations to follow.

Guv.

Be careful using My Herpes. I sent a frame via Parcel to Go, after entering the box dimensions accurately chose Hermes as the courier. The frame arrived with recipient safe and sound. Shortly after he confirmed arrival, Herpes sent me an email stating that the given measurements were incorrect and that they would not deliver until I had paid an extra tenner or so. I once again confirmed the frame had arrived safely and after Googling it appears that this happens fairly frequently. Some people have had pictures of the box being sent with a tape measure as proof of dimensions. It seemed like Herpes were pulling a fast one. They won’t get my business again....

Re:

I’ve just done this last week, first time sending something that big for me but went ok. So I used the Parcel2Go app. You just put In The weight (and dimensions if larger than 1m) and it comes up with a load of options. I went with parcelforce. They collected it from me on Tuesday it arrived at buyers on Thursday. I think it cost just under £20 but that was because I selected the insurance as well I think basic cost was under £15.

My Hermes is very hit and miss.
I have been using speedshift.co.uk very good and very reasonably priced.

Hear loads of good feedback for Hermes, am going to start using them instead of rm.

I think if you look you will find bad experiences from all couriers, best is to find one that offers good compensation and just try them.

Re:

Yeah you hear some terrible stories about Hermes but our local lady is really good. Only reason I don’t like them is they are not allowed to leave a parcel and so someone has to be there, 3 attempts and it gets returned to sender. Where as rm/pf will leave a card and I can collect from the sorting office which I literally drive by on the school run.

I use My Hermes for every delivery. Iv'e never had a problem. It's worth noting that they have a maximum weight of 15kg.
