Hi all I've a few questions for the enthusiasts I recently acquired an old early 90's Marin IFT  which is a little rough and needs plenty of tlc it's still rideable and will be used a little before winter sets in when I plan a complete strip down. After cleaning the frame its become apparent 50% of the lacquer has been striped by some attempt to clean with a Brillo pad or something the bare alloy is also pitted with white marks but is polishing up ok , so my questions are firstly if I polish up the bare alloy and apply a good cote of car wax will it be ok ? till I strip polish and re lacquer in the winter , secondly any recommendation on which DIY lacquer to use , I was thinking alloy car wheel stuff maybe ? , lastly where can I get new decals not necessarily all original , I prefer the newer colours and styles but would like a few originals.
Any advice & suggestions would be much appreciated.

yes, it'll be fine polished and waxed.

i ran polished lips on my van wheels all winter and protected them oncve at teh start with poorboy's rim wax. i ran the van all winter to see how well the wax would protect. io didnt clean or reapply at all.

come march time i cleaned the grime off. it had lost a little shine but there wasnt any pitting or corrosion

i would hugely suggest when you rebuild the bike not to lacquer it, just protect it with wax

Thanks for the info Lewis , never considered leaving it nude humm would look nice shines up a treat , just need some decals now any ideas ?
