I have the opportunity to buy a orange p7 rebuild bike but frama bit shabby for £200 or a klein pulsar comp project for £60.
Which do I buy , gonna have slicks for a training bike.
thanks all

I have a 96 Klein Pulse comp, and I've thought about putting slicks on it as a way to ride some asphalt roads in the local park when the trails are all wet and muddy. The position is rather stretched out and low as it is a mid-90s bike from when XC racing was king.

I have the original wheels set up with some old gumwall tires, and pulled out an old wheelset to mount some slicks on. The rims on the extra set are about 1 mm wider than the originals. That might not seem like much, but its enough to make wheel swaps without adjusting the brakes impossible.

I have never seen an Orange. (I'm American)

Depends where you are riding. Off road or on road or mixture etc and whether you want to potter or to pass others with a smug smile.

If you are a city racer then go for something with 700C wheels ie a racing bike. If you are a cool kid and just want to ride in your jeans and take in the air or smog then go for the Orange. If you want to be slightly different then go for the Klein.

I have ridden both on the commute and the Orange would be a more practical choice and still has bags of cred.

Cheers

Will you be riding all weathers?

If so, consider something to which you can fit a set of full mudguards, they don't look cool, but make it much less unpleasant to ride in wet weather.

I've got both a P7 and the very similar Klein Pinnacle.

There is a very clear difference between the two IMO. P7 for comfort / Klein for speed.

Well brought both, Klein frame is so light weighs the same as a pair of socks, p7 is being sent via courier should be here soon, also brought a Marin full suspension 1997 for local trails as they are just old enough to be retro and loads of cheap frames about not like Klein and orange which demand a good price due to their rarity etc. oxidisation on Klein frame though.

Good choice.

….and with the Marin. Their FS bikes from that period were pretty much unbeatable.
