AA batteries

I always buy a box of 40 Duracells from either amazon or 7 day shop. last time they cost me around £15

The Poundland-type ones are often old fashioned non-Alkaline (zinc-carbon) ones, which leak like the good old Ever-Readys of 1975.

yes, and avoid those - but they sell Alkaline AA and AAAs - makes like Polaroid and Hyundai - not had any problems with them.

Here in CA the cheapest place to get batteries is Ikea, maybe the same in the UK?

You'd buy a decent set of 4 AA's and a charger with plenty of change from a tenner.

Did just that from Bobby Dyas a couple of years ago. I think it was £9'99 for four 2000Ah batts and a charger. Still going strong, and 4x 2650 Ah duracells are only 8.99 from the Co-op.
There's nasty stuff in batteries. It pays to use re-chargeables, and no reason not to...
