Right. So original Seatpost clamp is here but no bolt (builders roofing bolt used when I rescued this).

Hard to find a quick release bolt as its about 36mm side to side (is quite wide).

And tried the Seatpost that historyman gave me which is an original and 30.2mm but its also rather loose. Might try a 30.4 see if that fits. Hard to tell until clamp is sorted.

Would buy a replacement clamp but its a weird size. Tried 31.8 with two spares I have, 32.0 as well and they are all too small. 34.9 are way too big. Hmmm.... Dislike shims

Tried 30.4 and its too big, fits down to the top tube intersection and no further. I suspect the top has flared a bit following the stuck seatpost, so will keep with the slightly looser 30.2

But I need to sort the seatclamp!

32.0 is way too tight:


34.9 is way too big - can see daylight at the bottom of this pic


So back to using the original, but I am struggling to get a bolt long enough. This set up with this (ugly) quick release is not quite long enough. Cant see anywhere online that sells longer.

Yeah potentially. Depends how well it mates with the skewer part really, never fits as tight as the original I find or might be just imagining that.

I can measure my the seatpost on my Dads Kili Racer if you want, he is away for week at the moment unfortunatley You could try the bearded one (DSP) I'm sure he will tell you Im pretty sure my old trekker HT was 31.6 seatpost

Also I wil have a rummage, i think may have the clamp from an old saracen that I can measure or even send to you , remind me at the weekend if I haven't got back to you

If you look at this pic:

The gap between the skewer end to the start of the thread poking out, i.e. the silver width of the clamp, is 36mm, so I need another cm of thread to get a tight grip really. Most clamps this size have a threaded part on one side, but not my lovely saracen!

Thanks chap. DSP is indeed on the hunt. No hurry but if not sorted I will send you a nudge about measuring your Dad's.

Seatpost is an original and is defiantely 30.2 just surprised its not that tight in there. 30.4 to hand and that's definately too big.

My old trekker alu (same as yours) was indeed 31,6 I believe.
