A tribute to my old 1990 Kona Explosif.

What year did Kona stop with the splatter paint jobs?

As mentioned, officially the 1990 range were the last splatters. Fun fact, the mass production units (so not the custom platters by The Art Department) were done at the Bellingham HQ/warehouse by many different staff members, hence the variations in splatter intensity.

Cool 👍 I always had a feeling more than one person was doing the splatter, i've had quite a few over the years and some barely have any splatter and some are covered in it.
Apart from i just love the Kona splatter paint look it's what got me into Konas and Joe Murray being part of it. It's always been part of the appeal of them because even though they're mass produced they're all individual in there own way because you couldn't replicate them, so effectively a one of one.

Amazing job mate. I wasn’t keen on these until recently but that particular version of the Explosif is an absolute classic and you’ve done it proud.

The powder coat base looks stunning in the pics so I can only imagine what it looks like close up in the sunshine!
Cheers mate 😃
In the sunshine mate it just looks amazing you can be looking at it one way and all the colours are popping out but look further down the bike and it can look jet black, i'm so glad i remembered to polish it because now the colour is so vibrant.
It was mad how i picked that colour, i was talking to the bloke about what effect i wanted and he went what about that and pointed to an alloy done in that colour. I just went that's the one, i want that colour on it,i'm really tempted to get another Kona done in the colour but just put the decals on and leave it like that, maybe the 93 Kilauea 🤔

You've just gave me a Eureka moment with your question, i can feel another one of one being done 😁
