A no holds barred 'why I dont like' thread.

Best thread topic in years, everyone’s so right and so wrong, me included. There’s an argument for every reply, I say get it out and worry about what you’ve said latter as we all have an opinion.

Legrandefromage =What have you done :) .

In answer to all GT’s except Zaskars, I say RTS,LTS and STX  .Only my opinion

Ringle =Tick, Klien = Bigger Tick, Mags = Massive Tick. Kona’s are ok.

A :D nother good dicussion thread...i see some of "me" in the discussion to be honest looking through the likes/dont likes/ +/-....its like society..it makes for a non perfect mix...which is also called "life"

If we were all the same  ..god help us

elitist snobby nonsense,

forum members who roll out their garage queeen yeti, cline, manitou etc etc holy grail of unicorn poo type bikes for BOTM, that they have posted on MTB forums around the world in the pursuit of adulation. then contribute nothing else to the forum. I find these bikes really yawn yawn. I have never wanted one of these bikes and never will. the true spirit of retrobike rides round the woods on kona's marins saracens etc
And in addition to that - some of the revisionist values you can read on here, where all the things enjoyed and perfectly acceptable BITD, have since become somewhat of an embarrassment or passé compared with more contrived or developed "refinement".

You, who owns a $4,000 Klein and takes photos with a $30 camera.

All for today ;)

But i've spent all my money on a lovely mtb and can't afford a expensive camera

Web addresses on retro bikes - Nothing looks more out of place than a .com or .co.uk on a bike built before the dot com era.

British builds - While the UK may produce the odd good frame and component you guys lost the ability make a lot of parts needed to create a complete bike well before the mountain bike ;)

I can only find Jaffa Cakes but I'm sorted for mugs.

LGF, are you near a Sainsburys? They do cracking posh biscuits.

Ooh ooh...ALUMINUM BOLTS! A metal fastener composed of Twix molecules! Aagghh!!!

I have a Costcutter near me - they do nice biccies.

Modern Geometry

Aaaaaaaghhh! Either you built it properly or you didnt. Then to redesign it for next year so you can get the damn geometry right so the magazines can claim 'its soooo better than last years'.

Trail Centre Heros

They scream into the carpark, shout 'Gurrrrrr!' as they remove their 10" full sussers to ride round the trail centre at full speed shouting at anyone in their way. After 20 mins its 'Gurrrrrrr' again as they pack their bikes up and go home.

Gurrrrr....

Magazines testing old bikes

Stupid stupid stupid - dont do it. You just make yourself look like twats and alienate yet another load of cyclists.

Modern V Retro arguments

The very reason I stopped buying new from around 2007 - its an expensive waste of time and causes no end of arguments - There are many 'retro' bikes that can still cut it today - BUT, there was also a hell of a lot of crap old bikes somewhat spoiling the good bikes reputations.

Rose tinted glasses

Take them off, look at what you've been buying for the last few years and cull it. XYZ wasnt good then and hasnt got any better since, sell it and buy something that is.

Bicycle Shaped Objects

Why are these still here? Why has nobody legislated against flogging something that clearly isnt fit for purpose? All it does is spoil the new to cycling enthusiast when they by their first Tesco special, assemble it at home and take their first ride with the forks around the wrong way.

The new cost of a decent modern bike

Come on, if the Government can subsidise those awful environmentally unfriendly electric cars, why not decent bikes? The cycle to work scheme is a good start but why not 'Cycle to Health' instead?

People who confuse 'not liking' something with it being 'crap!'

There are lots of things I don't like, but that's no reason for me to decry someone who does...

+1 for the aluminum bolts,

I sheared the head off the self extracting crank bolt 2 weeks ago. It cost me £10 for a new bolt and i had to wait 5 days for it to arrive, make it out of steel and make it built to last, its only a couple of grams extra.
