Just saw this for sale on Craigslist locally. It's described as a Devinci Boogie. Looks pretty similar to what the OP has.

The bottom bracket I pulled out of mine was an XT from mid 90s I think. If that gear is right on the bike it looks I got the right age.

Something I never thought to check but….

This big sticker saying Geko Bikes on the top tube is actually from a French bike shop in Didenheim near the Swiss border. The phone number matches the one on the sticker so it looks like the bike was originally imported to France (maybe?) and then brought to the UK

Also can someone please remind me what sort of chain guide goes on the underside of the chainstay here. My mind is blanking.

quite simple :

1- Québec is huge and has many rivers
2- government build dams to make hydroelectricity (sadly flooding many First Nations lands but that's another story)
3- aluminium companies got rebates over the electricity price (producing aluminium takes a lot of electrcity)
4- Alcan was born out of this and high quality aluminium was produced on the Côte-Nord (north coast of the St-Layrence River)
5- Da Vinci (originally) / Devinci (now) was born out of this industry's traces and invested a lot in the R&D for a small team
think of this frame as a quality on pair with Duralcan found on S-Works M2 made-in-usa with Alcan aluminium composite
tubes are generally non butted so they don't have dents and the weight is quite similar to titanium

the energy was invested in the quality more than the advertisement

I think that, in the long run, people will understand the value of these frames, like you seem to be doing.

the blue lettering looks nice over the scratched aluminium

the patina would shine with a new pair of tan wall rubbers...
