The Number Of The Beast
Picked a Carlton Worksop up yesterday, but im unsure which model it is? i was thinking maybe a Catalina or a Constallation?
It has Huret dropouts and the serial number is TT stamped in the middle of the BB with A4170 stamped on the chain drive side of the BB
Ive posted some pictures on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/156191830 ... 6229894806

Any advise would be great

cheers
Neil

Looks very nice, like those really standout lugs :)
What are your plans for this one?
I can't really help with the ID but I am sure someone will be along to help, Mike Jane is your man for that I think.
There is also a great Carlton group on FB, same usual suspects on both ;)
Once you know make sure to start a readers rides thread, I for one would like to watch it progress.

Capella lugs and a frame number that doesn't start with a single letter is 1968-72 most likely but may be earlier. The decals are later;. Real nice frame and I'll have a think about the model

Id need to have a toot around but I don't think its a Catalina or Constellation, neither had a hanger on the rear stay. Are the forks original? If its a T prefix it points to about 65/66. Ill get back with maybe a model name. Obviously the point job and decals are later.

Re: A Carlton Worksop but which one? TT41470

I don't think the "TT" is part of the number so think it's from the strange numbering late 60's to early 70's. I was wondering if the forks were original as the full sloping ones were in the Giro, Kermesse, Pro but it's not one of those.

Sort of reminds me of an early Super Course with the wrong forks?

Neil, its not say not saying Catalina or Constellation. Capella lugs say Carlton, but I believe a few other manufacturers may have used them, Raleigh for example.

Re:

Update been chatting to somebody about the frame,
Now after looking deeper at the frame number it's actually A4170 which means it from 1966,
The seatpost is 27.2 so the tubing is Reynolds 531
The chap is looking into his 1966 catalogues to try to identify which model it is
I'll keep you updated

Poss as late as 73, the A repeated. Could be special order as it doesn't seem to be a catalogue model, if you get chance see if frame number is also on fork. Cheers, Andy.
