If they are done properly they don’t dull in my experience.

Certainly the ones I’ve got which are still perfect years later. They aren’t ridden though which helps.

Remember that BB wasn’t polished.

Yeah, I realise I may not have done mine correctly, well the Zaskars anyway, (I don't think my other bare Alu bikes are/were Ball Burnished). However, I like them... .

Could be that difference in method is why mine do start to oxidise, which is probably overstating it as it is only very, very minor.

Well they’re clean at least. They have an alloy damper which is apparently a good thing. It works too.. that’s definitely a good thing. I’ll work out what elastomers I need for them later & I presume they need the foam rings at the wiper seals, none in there currently. Hopefully all the bits are there otherwise.

I’d be happy to talk you through my method if needed. It’s easier to explain than type it out.

I’ve done loads now (maybe 50+) so it’s been trial and error but I’m happy with how they come out

Think I might be sorted on elastomers so I thought I’d take a look at the wheels. Was going to use the rims on some other hubs but the front one is actually worn through so it’s in the bin. I have a pair of 217 on XT hubs and looking at the brochure that’s what this model had on it in 96 so I’ll pop them in I reckon. Unsurprisingly the alloy nipples were mostly seized anyway.

Might have a go at de anodising these today and polishing them a bit. I do like to use what I have where I can but a bit rough for leaving as they are.

Keep them gold and buy my 95 Raceface cranks in gold to match ….. would go well with the gold judy XC etc

A quick clean and a quicker polish. A bit more pitted than I would have liked but I’ll see how it looks in the bike. Left side is worse but nobody ever looks at the left side of a bike do they?

They look lovely. Your time will probably cost more than what I paid for the bike though Also I’d never ride it with anything that good on. I’m thinking of using an M737 now instead as the rest will be 96 XT I reckon.
