'93 Zaskar - Bumblebee - Complete 20/8/2010 (page 3)

No more pics, but I do have to add a very big THANKYOU to Stevetait, who has helped me with a couple of technicals' during the build...  - Oh yeah, and the NOS forks...

Without him, I wouldn't have known how to run canti's on the rear

Also a thanks to all the people who have knowingly (and unknowingly  ) supplied the parts for the build

Mmmm Me Like ! Nice build.

That's the sort of thing I'm going to be aiming for with mine. My frame is well used but solid with a few scratches and dings so it's pointless trying to make it look all new. Your's looks pretty but 'lived in'.

I like the yellow/black/shiny look as well, mine is a 94 and I thought the decals and colours that year were a little dull (sorry chaps if you've got one). I've toyed with various other look but keep coming back to this classic GT colour scheme.

Cheers,

Yeah, although I've polished it and not used it since, I've still managed to create a 'used' look... ;) probably because I keep lifting it on and off the workstand as I tinker with it...

I love the yellow/black with the shiny too, and I'm not particularly happy with the pics, as it looks a lot more vibrant in the metal...

Cant beat a nice Zaskar.

If it were mine I would change the cranks to polished ones, as with the black chainrings I think they look a little too much (and dare I say it....cheap!). I have a set, LX or DX I think, if required.

Tyres too are a little OTT with the yellow band, too modern for such a period build. Amberwall ideally, or all blackwall.

Otherwise, am loving the kit choice, well done that man.

My pleasure mate... its looking cucumber cool   I see you are running LX Cantis.... fancy a pair of NOS LX cratridge pads to celebrate (unfortunatly only the one pair but v.nice!)..it may inbalance but they are sweet :D

......also, prepare for the angst and contradicting pleasure of getting it filthy!!!!! ...all that ball burnished shine dulled by muck

Cheers Steve, I'm looking forward to riding it to death.. and thanks for the brake pad offer, I've pm'd you ;)

@ Pickle, cheers for the comments, It's come out almost as perfect as I'd pictured it in my mind, and as for tyres, I initially wanted yellow sidewall Panaracer Fire XC Pro/mud's and actually opted for the Dura's as the yellow band was a lot more subtle. ;)

I put some amberwalls on yesterday, just to be sure, and it made the rest of the bike look a bit 'odd' :? :? :?

All I can say is a big thank you to jimihendrix for re-igniting my passion in Zaskar's, I think it's the size of that beauty that's flicked the switch!

I will head off into to the cellar and see what can be accomplished, I may be some days.......

WOW  , you are welcome, very flattered to have influenced someone, the bike was pretty much thrown together, has changed a bit since the pics, now has White Industries cranks a Syncros stem and smaller 2.1 tyres (2.3 and 2.2 in the pics).

I agree that the 16" does look good with the sloping top tube, got the frame last year to replace the one i bought new and sold back in the 90's.

Well just over one year from stating "I may be some days........" it is complete

Thanks again to jimihendrix for the inspiration, it has been an enjoyable journey :D

Steve.

You're always first to come forward with a compliment on others bikes, so with that in mind, it needs to be said that that is a bloody lovely zaskar.
Totally dig the colour scheme, I'm of opinion that retro doesn't extend to tyres. I love the name, nice compliment to my own 'panda' zaskar.
The other thing is that what an amazing piece of bike you've got for £250. I just bought my bro a bike from Evans on the bike2work scheme and he spent £700, but it ain't a patch on this badboy. By a really really long way.

Well done mate.

Wow, total blast from the past.

sold it before I even rode it...  can you believe it..

Still, I'm in the middle of building another one at the moment, and I Definitely will be riding that one..

@ Trickylad - thanks. I always post positive comments as there's always something good to be found in everything.. ;)

Looking forward to hearing your feedback on Josef Fritzl's rocky mountain resto...

Building the bumblebee without riding it? That's a bloody crime. You should rightly be a little embarrassed, unless that is a European bike loon offered you €6000 for it.
