Right then....after a fork saga of epic proportions, I've finaly been able to make progress
I bought some Pace RC36's from ebay a few weeks back, but I need to swap the steerer to a 1".
A quick call to Tim (justbackdated) and I had a nice new steerer and lightened shim winging its way to me.
Forks arrived.....and one of the stantions is damaged :roll:
Spoke to seller who offered me a refund, but I had to pay to post them back!
Told him to shove his refund and decided to carry on regardless.
First job was to remove the old 1 1/8" steerer. This wasn't easy!
The retaining bolts had been rounded so I had to drill small holes on the outside of the heads and use a pin punch to tap them loose.....
This took some patience (not something I'm blessed with
) but I got there in the end.
Tapped the old steerer out and was ready to fit the shiney new one...
Fitted the shim to reduce to 1"...
and then pushed home the new steerer (should be long enough
)
I was on 'stand-by' with work today so spent the time productively, just not for Siemens
Found some new fixings in my tool box....
Slotted the forks into place and stood back to take a look...
Marked the steerer where I needed to cut it and got busy with the hacksaw. Re-assembled everything, found a top-cap (need a black one!) and hey presto!!
Borrowing mates workstand later. Need to get the new chain fitted and then get fiddling with the gears etc.
May get out for a ride on Saturday
