90's Specialized sizing

It turns out it's a 1998. In order to get the seatpost to at the right height, I'd have to use a 400mm with only 4 inches in. But I think the reach will be right for me.
I tried out a 96 17" rockhopper a1 fs and I had trouble getting behind the seat and it was really tough for me to steer, so I assume the reach on a 17" would be too long, but looking at those numbers, the 1998 tt's are the same length, and if anything the seat tube angle on the 15.5 would be steeper.

The dealer manual unfortunately doesn't have the rockhopper numbers in for comparison.

Specialized always measure centre to top.
I have a lot of the 80's and 90's catalogues and tech manuals if there is a specific model you want measurements of as they change slightly, model by model over the years.
Just let me know, glad to help.

Jamie, an old thread I know but having managed to size my 90s Rockhopper from your guidance (18" centre crank to top of frame tube) and wishing to avoid a new thread, I was wondering if you could help by nailing down the year and any details from your catalogues? I got the bike "as new" second hand a lot of years ago and I did have a search through everything here and based on Specialized being on the down tube Etc, I kind of thought 1997/1998 but I could not find the same bike available in Team Red listed? Anyway, I have added a picture and if you can assist it would be great. Thanks in advance. Simon.

Re:

1997. 1996 had 'Specialized' on the top tube not the down tube. 1998 had the 'Nitanium' tubing. The archive just has a price list for '97 but if you Google 1997 RockHopper, you will find more like yours in Team Red.

Perfect, many thanks and much appreciated, I'll get googling again. :D

Would you happen to have a 90 English Specialized as well as an 86 Specialized catalog?

I’m not sure how to DM on Retrobike...
