Nice build, you don't see many Tequestas of this vintage around, well done for saving it!
I see that you are looking for an original GT saddle for it - they were sooooo uncomfortable, probably why you can't find one easily! My '91 Tequesta came with a GT Sport saddle which I threw away 22 years ago and replaced with a Turbo Gel saddle. The studded leather GT saddles I think are the Competition version fitted to the higher end bikes.

Interesting thought about the saddle - hadn't considered the comfort aspect - just blindly following the originality path - although on the 2 occasions I've been out on the GT saddle originally fitted to the bike I've not had any issues (both rides were a couple of hours each).

I've actually managed to source another GT saddle which I'm going to use initially while I recover/refurb the original saddle.

Interesting to hear about the studded version - I was offered one recently and it certainly looked intriguing!

Bit more progress at the beginning of the week.....

Got the rear mech cleaned up and sorted out.

Stripped and cleaned

Painted......with Acid Etch primer and black stove paint



Re-assembled.....and ready for re-fitting



Also etch primed the chain suck patch, after applying kurust......



Removed the tired looking chainstay protector too...just need to find a replacement!

I've done a bit more to this than I had originally planned - but I think it's worth it. I agree - it's going to be unrecognisable to the bike that I bought last July.

Yeah - I had the same thoughts just after I'd sprayed the black coat. I've got a set of needle files which I've used to good effect on an XT RD in the past. Didn't even cross my mind to do it on this one! Maybe I'll sort it after everything else is finished.....

Started fitting up the brakes to the Tequesta this evening and stumbled across an issue with the front brakes....and as with most of the bits that I've taken off and sorted it's been bodged.

When tightening up the fixing bolt for the RH cantilever arm there seems to be loads and loads of fore/aft movement - i.e. the arm can slide forwards and backwards along the canti boss!

After a quick google search it seems the RHS canti brake is missing a part - which allows spring tension adjustment (the silver boss with the flats on it - bottom right image - image from t'internet)



Bollox. Chances of getting a replacement set of these brakes?? Would like to keep it original if possible.....

I can fit these up and space the canti arm using a couple of washers (how the original owner had bodged it) but it means I can't then adjust the spring tension to centre the arms.

After sorting out a NOS replacement suntour cassette via the retrobike for-sale page I bought another chain-whip to attempt removing the lock-ring/first cog on my missing-a-tooth cassette.

First attempt.....no sweat. Job jobbed....happy days.

Just popped to Halfords and bought their cheapest (bikehut branded) whip - for a tenner.

Turning my attention to the cranks & pedals.....

More bodgery. Middle ring fitted the wrong way round! Also a sheared bolt/slightly bent granny ring







Stripped down and cleaned up - intend to repaint and re-use. Bolt has wound out really easily which is good.
