It's the M740 shifters that are starting to give up, and hence the drive towards 9spd. And the casettes as well.
The M739 rear mech is in good order, so will be pressed into a few more years service.
I was told that 9spd chain was better than the old IG70 , so it may not have been a bad thing to hav tried this before.
I've already got teh M961 front mech that was hiding in the garage.
I'd still use th M739 chainset if I could buy the 42T ring,as the middle and bottom rings are still available.I did see a NOS M739 chainset go for over £85 a few months ago on eBay...........
