Hey, everyday is a school day. Someone on here has a lemon, frame number is left to right on the BB, as opposed to front to back as above. Different factory for these?

Went in tonight and dug out drivetrain, brakes and other lil bits...
I realised I've already cleaned up and regreased / lubed the rear mech and the shifters at some point. I remember now that I started to rescue the old jockey wheels and spent a while removing corrosion off the plates that sit on them... I had a word with myself and went and bought some new ones.
So then I spent this evening on the front mech and cassette. They seem to be cleaning up nicely.
Then started to disassemble the chain set, but don't have my chainring tool to hold the slotted nuts. I could've improvised, but realised it was late and that I'd be visiting my shed and the bulk of my tools tomorrow when I go see my boy.
The cassette has little to no wear. Chainrings look pretty heckin good... The chain. Well, I'd like to say I can rescue that, but no. Some things are just too far gone.
All the LX kit appears to be M550. I don't know about the cassette, I can't see a model stamp anywhere but am guessing it's a HG50. Is it original? I'm guessing not, but if anyone can identify it as a period correct unit, that'd be cool.
I just googled the US patent number on the lockring... Which was fun:

When I stripped the brake cables out of the STI's, there were some jazzy little brass sleeve things to cradle the cable ends. I made sure I kept these.
I'll have to dig out the wheels and see what state the hubs are in and whether the nipples are tweakable (doubtful).

Yeah, could have been my old 17"? The yellow/white I have now is the more usual style. Vast majority of this era Orange came out of the A-Pro factory in Taiwan so start with an A but there are a few exceptions where I assume they were trying out different suppliers for a batch of frames?
They ordered reasonably small amounts at a time back then which gave them chance to change frame details and geometry several times a year. C16 was named after the 16th revision to the frame which when you consider this spanned a 6 year period is quite a lot!

Great project btw. Your build is pretty much exactly the same as my yellow/white Clockwork. That reminds me, I need to finish that and update the thread!
Just picked this up and am very happy to report it's ace and almost original, right down to the Mavic Oxygen rims that they seemed to fit to the LX Clockwork's in 89, but not others in the range.
Some of you may remember that I had a 21 inch 89 in the past (still on the site in mint, re-painted condition) and regretted selling it as they rarely come up in my size, especially in yellow/white so when I was offered this by ant55uk earlier this week I couldn't resist, even though I put myself on a retro buying ban!
Good news is that under the grime it's in better shape than my old one and I...

This one, and a few other oranges like it, were all displayed on the wall in the shop for a while, alongside a muddy fox courier, a tushingham b52 and an s&g pathfinder. It was interesting to see the similarities between all the frames. I think the pathfinder was roger tushinghams. I remember ringing him to see if he still wanted it... He did!
Also, I cleaned up some crank and ring. Will have to exercise caution cleaning outer ring as need to preserve the biopace sticker.
I found I randomly had a seat post that fits. Although a black one would match bar/stem, so maybe I'll do a look.
