Having installed the front mech, i though i might as well put the chain on. I have a nice nos sachs sedis 6 speed for the job....perfect....

Èrrrrrrrr...no.

The dinner plate chainrings mixed with very long "epic" chainstays and massive 34 tooth (for bitd) gearing means 114 links wont even start to fit. A hill climber its not, but im sure it will be more stable than a mountain goat!

In the box of delights, i do have a new sram 870....my preferred weapon of choice for 6/7/8 speed stuff. As a result i also have various sections of unused chain from other bikes.

Using a larger "cut off" section, I now have a 121 link chain. In the end 119 turned out to be the lucky number.

So now i just need to finish that other shifter and its onto the cockpit!

Back in time for tea and medals....huzzah!

Looking rather lovely and yes, the more I look at it, the longer the chain seems to get! 🤪

Love the first gen(?) biopace branding, always thought that sticker would look awesome on a retro t-shirt. Also love a good EGG ring sticker too. RIP Chris Bell.

Yes. He always looked like one of the guys from the 70s open university programmes to me! Very clever chap.

As for the decal, i love the way they made the image out of blocks to really make it look " computery" (im sure that's a word) because all computer designed images were square.......nowadays i can't tell computer graphics from real life!

Oh except minecraft.....

Haha just zoomed in for a look...now I want to make the yellow O into a pacman 😂
Look forward to seeing this ....it's looking very handsome 👍

Slower progress this week as I've been working on the bikes much bigger brother prior to an mot!

The second shifter is now back together and my little fix worked. Micro metalwork at its best. So all friction clicky and happy again.

With that done I've been able to assemble the cockpit.

One little tip...if your struggling with floppy cables at the lever, caused by them having those huge 6mm holes, then try using motorbike cable ends, over a standard cycle one.

I get mine from Venhill who also do 2mm old skool inners and 6mm outers if you ever need them. Also standard fare on our engined brothers and cheap as chips.

Finally, don't forget to put the brass nipple spacers in! Else the nip twists round and ends up fraying.....again another legacy of the cables and levers being nicked from motorcross bikes bitd.

Original grips cleaned up will too!
