'81 Claud Butler Colstar Yumeya/DuraAce #035210 FINISHED p16

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210 FINISHED pg5

It looks fantastic and while it's not my place to comment on the Dura Ace, it is whatever you enjoy. The fact that it is so different from your other rides in just that respect makes it a great thing. Looks lovely.

Couple of tweaks......

DuraAce 7400 pedals from 1992, bit more bling and 80g shaved off...

Brand new Ultegra CS-6700, 12-30t to help me get out of the valley.....

I forgot to add when talking about toe clips and trainers but this really is a cracking looking machine, well done that man I expect it really is as good as it looks

Cheers Allen, Though I’m already planning a winter makeover :D

Plan is; full chrome front forks, new rear drop-outs (the old school screw in adjusters are broken off inside these) also chromed and increased rear spacing by 5mm. Then a baked enamel Champagne paint job at Bob Jackson’s.. that’s my Christmas present sorted :xmas-big-grin:

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210 FINISHED pg5

Now then, as previously mentioned, I wanted to make some modifications to the Colstar, replacement new Campagnolo rear drop-outs so that I can have the little screw-in adjusters that always looked so cool to me as a teenager, (the original near-side dropout had its screw snapped off) although this time without the redundant mudguard eyes.. wider spacing to more comfortably accommodate the 135mm DuraAce 10 speed as this frame was originally spaced at 125mm for a 5 speed freewheel. And to help that spacing it’s going to get a new slightly wider bridge made for a recessed Allen sleeve nut (I had drilled out the old bridge, which was ok, but not ideal)
And of course a new baked enamel paint job, not catalogue, rather exactly how I want it;
Champagne pale gold, white lug lining, white head tube, white “correct” Claud Butler decals.

Likely to be one of the last refurbished by Bob Jacksons... :(

Now for the forks, again I don’t need the mudguard eyes, so I’ve cut these off... and dropped them off at Quality chrome in Hull.. first time I’ve used them as my normal go-to-guys, Allenchrome are way too busy right now.. :|

Re: 1981 Claud Butler Colstar - DuraAce #035210

I love the way the concept keeps evolving for this one.

It's going to be fantastic, between the frame rejuvenation and the top notch components!

I'll just sit over here quietly with my popcorn and wait for the show finale after the intermission.

way to* busy right now.. :|
You'd best take one of those mudguard eyes and and put it here* in that sentence, Peachy. 'Way to busy' means almost the exact opposite of 'Way too busy' :)

Are you sure you're not a racing driver with that many excuses?

Anyway looking forward to the final shimmering evolution of this one? (popcorn, comfy chair and copy of retrobikes monthly at the ready)
