7Speed's 1992 Brodie Sovereign

Its been a bit busy at work so only just go to looking at the bike again. I had a set of Hugi Compacts with Ritchey Vantage Sport rims built and fitted the nice new XT headset. This was only my second Headset fit so was pleased it ended up butter smooth and tight. For some reason this always seemed very intimidating but the biggest hassle is getting the old one out and the crown race off the forks... Headset Fitting1.webp Headset Fitting2.webp

Tomorrow I hope to get a little time to fit the BB and progress the build to a point where I see if the components work and look right.

Looking great Andy. Looks like Brodie's "wasabi" green. Love it 😍

Some positives and negatives from the hour I got at the weekend to work on the build. First I found lots of lovely bits and pieces I had been storing up I forgot I had hidden away. This includes about six M733 u-brakes with various bits missing that I hope will give me at least one in good condition). @Tommy27 sold me a brodie u-brake booster so that should look good on the back....

But I seem to have mucked up on the BB axle length. I measured the old BB and just grabbed a new one of eBay, but the new chainset I put on (same M730 but with nice round rings vs biopace) needs a wider BB. No idea what I did wrong here...thoughts very welcome.

Looks like I need another 5mm or so on the axle...I did go a bit over the torque range of 15-17 Nm I found on the Net as I didn't notice I had forgotten to adjust the wrench....but I wasn't leaning on it using a scaffolding pole either...so I am assuming its an axle length issue?
