I have a 90s/early 00's Specialized Strong Arm chainset plus a more modern Shimano M440 one. Both being sold in my sales thread over on the LFGSS site: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/395390/
Also have an Exage chainset knocking about somewhere, not included on the thread. It's 80s and definitely 7 speed so could be better suited to your bike. Plus I've got some narrow wide chainrings that can be used for converting the chainsets to x1 setup.

I have a really nice deore mt60 with 28/38/48 biopace rings. Immaculate condition and with the silver crank caps. Runs on a 122.5mm bb (might get away with longer/shorter depending on the frame).

You could do 1x7 with a chain device on the ring, tends to be a bit rattly.
Depends on how you ride as to how serious it needs to be.

Thick thin ring also helps.

There used to be an arm with a long spring that mounted on the dropout and the spring added extra back pull to the derailleur. Can't find it online, or tremendous the name. DCD period, late 90s.
None of these options were perfec

The lovely Bullet Bros chain tensioner had a couple bitd, also got this one in my box similar but attaches to the mech adjuster. I found Ging chain tensioners worked better than Dcds.
