531 double butted cold setting limit

I am 68kg!

How? Is it difficult?
It's not difficult but requires some technical skill and parts.

You want to replace the 130mm shimano axle with a 126.

(You can cut 4mm off the non-drive-side end and file it to match the original shape of you don't have a decent shop nearby)

You need to lose 4mm spacers on the nds. Sometimes you just take one out, more frequently you need to find a narrower spacer.

You need to redish the wheel 2mm to the drive side. That will mean a turn or two loosening the nds spokes, and a turn or two tightening the drive side.
And then re- true the wheel.

Reassemble, and ride!🤠

Far, far preferable to bending a frame.

@Guinessisgoodforyou reminded me why chrome stays are worse than painted for stress - but aren't full chromed stays beautiful!
Leave them as the framebuilder intended👍

Good advice but is 10mm just a bit too much to cold set a frame safely?
I've set a 120 to 130 before in me shed. I used an old steel axle and four track nuts. I did 2.5mm at a time over the course of a day with no problems. 531 is extremely tough. I've also done 126mm to 130 by hand in one go. The worst thing you might do is crack the mudguard joint at the bracket, which is an easy fix for any frame builder. I've probably done this about half a dozen times, mostly with the axle method, 'springing' it bit by bit, with 100% results.

Most people are general terrified of this, but if you've seen videos of frame builders cold setting frames, kinda gives you an idea of the robust nature of modern steel tubesets.

You could just go to 128mm, and spring the frame when you put a wheel in and out. Slight hassle, but if you're a bit wary, why not.

I put my Ron Cooper frame in to be painted at Colourtech in Dartford years back. It was 126mm spacing and I had some nice mavic wheels with the correct spacing that I planned to use.

When I dropped the frame in I got a nice surprise, in a small workshop at one end of the building Ron Cooper was there and still building frames.

So I asked him to fit a second set of bottle mounts which he duly obliged.

When I got the frame home I was quite puzzled as to why my nice mavic wheels didn't fit properly.

Turned out Ron had re-spaced the rear end for me and didn't mention it..... Fun times and a pleasure meeting the man himself

But I guess what I'm saying is that Winston Vaz will have the skills to re-space that Roberts frame
