50th anniversary Breezer

Okay that’s a fib coz Joe’s not been building that long…

But this is a project for my little brother’s 50th birthday in one month and 2 days so this one *must* get done. He’s not on here so you’re all sworn to secrecy!

He had a 92 one back in, err, 92… and 93 and 94… flogged it when new priorities came along and now reminisces about it from time to time.

@keithyr kindly furnished me with this little fella that arrived yesterday so now I’ve got five weekends to get this sorted.

The paint has loads of touch ups but is basically sound so clean and polish it will be. I’ll probably have a bash at touching up the decals with gold paint.

My main dilemma is what to put on it. This is almost certainly a 93 (probably ought to look at the frame number) and so should have black LX (M560) on it (of which I’ve pretty much everything) but his had a mix of LX (550)and DX (650) on (of which I’ve a similar amount).

what do we think?

What tyre is that? I think i can make out 60-559 or is it 50? but do not recognise the tread pattern.

If it is a 93, I'd ditch the V-brakes and go with canti's.
Also, I would get rid of that hideous stem .

I always liked the DX group a lot more than LX, especially the shifters and levers.
However, I don't see as much difference between DX and LX derailliurs.

Hideous stem is history I think it was used as a commuter by a very tall man…

the vittoria tyres were a great purchase though.

I thought I had the original breezer stem, but this seems to have been lost in a previous clear out. I will have another rake in the shed and send it on if I find it.

As for the tyres - i'd never come across them before but think i'll be hanging on to them for myself. They're beasts
