are you suggesting he stole the tubing...?

not sure how you could infer my post that way and come up with that suggestion?

Not sure how else you could take, it. Moonlighting? using others gear, tubes etc, or did you mention he had supplied his own tubes and had permission from the owners/employers etc.

You're putting alot of words in my mouth. But yes, it's common practice to ask he boss if they/we can build stuff on our own time and most owners let their guys use the tools and build personal stuff. Here's one that's built after work

Here's a 26 BMX cruiser that Chris Cooney built when at Brodie

A short while later, he then had Toxik do custom paint on it (yes, after work at Brodie) and it now looks like this

Hope that clears things up.

Re: calling on Brodie fans

What you have made clear, is despite all these famous guys building there own bikes in there own time with the owners permission and gear/tubes etc, is that they still have the owners/employers name on them.

I think that takes us back to my original point.

Re: calling on Brodie fans

Actually your excellent pictures answers the OPs question perfectly.

Re: calling on Brodie fans

Not sure of your point as I skimmed past everything you posted up until trolling my posts. The Rocky is half Altitude, half Vertex and is why it has "Custom" for its model. The repainted Cooney cruiser has his name and logo on it.

Anybody, after work, could make their own creation and put their name on the downtube after painting it. It happened frequently

Re: calling on Brodie fans

Don't worry about Carl, Eric. Somehow I don't think he would be debating semantics so vociferously if it was a welder at a British manufacturer doing something for himself on off hours in question.

I've never worked in a shop that didn't let employees use their equipment off hours. It's an unwritten perk in the industry, but you are expected to get it rubber stamped on the first occasion. Hell, I remember one union shop I worked at (TRW Vehicle Safety Systems) where one guy told the foreman some guys on aft./mid. shifts were doing "government jobs" (stuff for themselves). He was summarily told to mind his own business.

Most of the work (70%) below was done on company hours.

Re: calling on Brodie fans

For sure, Stu. I think it's the main reason for going to work!

That contraption in the second picture looks very interesting!

that would be like Brian or Wintson doing there own work in there time and not putting a Roberts Decal on it after they had finished, British or Canadian it matters not, the OPs question wasn't did they do it, it was whose decal should get used on the frame when finished.

BC answered the OPs question perfectly by demonstrating with pictures. (and reading isn't Trolling my friend)

Anybody, after work, on weekends, could make their own creation and put their own name on the downtube after painting it. It happened frequently. End of story

It's a 'knacker grinder' ... turns knackers into burger meat during those really steep, butt-off-the-seat-and-way-back descents.
