Every frame built by Sandvik is a Sandvik, and not a Merlin/Litespeed Kona etc, despite them having chosen the design, tube specs etc....?

Not knowing the full story doesn't help, whose to say Rocky Mountain took him under contract and not full time employment or even as a fledgling frame builder, although its still semantics in my eyes, if the frame didn't get used, why Not...?

no you misunderstand, please re-read my post. i'm saying it IS an Orange Clockwork.

just like all the Kona Titanium/Hei Hei, and Rocky Mountain Titanium/T-bolt, Marin titanium bikes are their respective brands, even if they were outsourced to Sandvik, Merlin, Litespeed. or a Kona Hot is a Kona Hot, even if it's made by TT, or a Yeti which was made by FTW.

Wow this thread has got some legs and they are running around in circles! Did we get to ANY kind of real answer yet? Im of the opinion that if it left the factory (no matter the size of shop or location or who was the fabricator) and was sold with a certain set of decals on it, that's what it should be called. End of story. That being said, if you want to brag about the "providence" of a set a tubes then more power to you. someone post a poll pls.

Perhpas the convoluted twists of design, creation/fabrication, employment/contract, branding, and remunerations track all come together to at atimes increase the value of a specific frame, depending on its provinence.

from the additional details i got, it seems very clear to me that the frame is a Rocky Mountain made by Paul during his employment there. even if the frame was not sold to the perspective buyer during that time and Paul ended up keeping it and passing it on at a later date, i would still class it as a Rocky Mountain as special as it may be, as that was the initial intent of the frame.

All the time guys are building stuff on their own time with the companies equipment. If Paul was working at Rocky and made a frame on his time (at lunch, after work) and altered the jig and machined the tubes at different angles/geometry (therefor making it unique from Rocky) then by all means it is his frame and entitled to put "Brodie" on it.
