Reasonably priced for a hardtail. Heavy ruder so run fairly high pressures.

I have no clue. Comes with maxxis aspens which look a little summery. Or am I Wong?

Rubber Queen folders look ok but this is all very modern as I like Panaracers.

Thanks THM

Re:

Aspen are a kind of do it all tyre...fine unless it gets really muddy. Depends how wintery you were thinking of! I have just put the "winter" tyres back on mine which I used last winter and was very pleased with. Bontrager Mud X team issue tyres 29 X 2.0. I ride in a lot of squishy sloppy mud and these performed very well...and as you well know I am a heavy ruder too! lol Maxxis Beavers are good too not tried the 29" but the 26" does the same job as the Bontys.

Cheers Doug. Liking the look of 2.0 beavers at 18.99 on crc with good mud reviews.

Re:

We've been using Smorgasbords on our 29ers - Inbred and an El Mariachi - and they might not be light but they do grip very well. We have heavy, claggy clay round here and they work as well as anything else we've tried.
Not sure if the magazines rate them but I use Bontrager Mud X's, Nobby Nics and some Contis on my 26" Dekerf and can honestly say the Smorgasbords are cracking. Oh, and they're cheap.

Ultimately it depends on your local conditions as I've used tyres that get great reports on forums that I found sh*te.

Got a Chunky Monkey in the shed if you want it.

We have heavy claggy too. My face can confirm that.

so far
2.0 maxxis beavers at 18.99 on crc
2.2 smorgasbord or 2.4 chunky monkey both at 19.99 from on one
2.0 bontrager mud x at 26.99 from je james

i shall await the arrival of the steed and check clearances before deciding.

Any more suggestions? thanks chaps

Re:

AFAIK those Panaracers weren't very good, who would have thought that making the tread the same as the sponsored riders initials would result in a tyre that didn't work well

Re:

Don't forget you are running tyres with a lot more volume than your other bikes, so you don't need as much pressure in them.

I know I'm running tubeless and am not as heavy as you, but I'm only running 20psi in the front and 25 in the back.
