The 2002 Cinder Cone that I'm building as the pub/cummetr hack has a 27mm seat tube, problem I have is I want to fit a 27.2mm seat post.

Is it possible to "ream" the frame seat tube to 27.2mm? Or perhaps clean out 0.2mm with an abrasive "flappy" wheel?

I think you'd have more luck turning the 0.2 off the post.
Any shop with a lathe should be able to do it fairly quickly and if you find the right bloke in the right shop who can be bribed with food /drink then all the better!

I think a flap wheel down the seat tube would just make a mess.

:? Is there something very special about this seat-post...you seem to want to make hard work for yourself, why not just buy a 27.0 post  ;)

I'm incredibly anal about details when I do things (working in F1 for 7 years to blame for that, along with a touch of OCD), I want to use Bonty stem, bars, saddle & seatpost as I like Bonty stuff & also are available in black with white detailing to match the monochromatic colour scheame I'm going for.

Rediculous I know.

Yes, you can ream the seat tube. But stop and consider why it's 27.0 and not 27.2.

Yes, it's because you would be thinning the tube and weakening it...

...do you feel lucky? :?

Admittedly a lot if it is due to tube distortion during welding, but thinning some parts of an ovalised tube still isn't a wonderful idea.

How about obsessing about Thomson stuff instead? They make 27.0 seatposts!

On my road bike I have a 27.2 titanium seat stay in a 27.0 steel frame. Bit hard to get in, but it works. The frame was a bit worn though. The old alloy seat stay kept on sliding in.
The seat stay is much shorter than on an mtb though. Not sure if this is any help. Good luck.

It wont be black and white anymore if you put it on a laithe thou!!! it may not seema lot but 0.2mm will weaken the metal by about 30%, but if you must do 1 or the other do the seatpost as its probably going to be cheaper to replace the seatpost than the frame if you really badly mess it up

I've seen kona's that'll take a 27.2 without too much trouble anyway, I suppose it all depends on frame/seatpost tolerances.

Give the flappy wheel a go, I bet you don't need to do much.

Just remember it's only 0.1mm all the way round ;)
