I don’t often venture to these rarified forums, mainly staying on the MTB side but a recent project has lead me to need the collective wisdom in identifying a small part.

I am building up a 1990 Lemond TVT, but rather than the usual Tour de France variant, I am building a Giro d’Italia version. There are a few key differences, namely pedals, stem and computer, but also the bottle cages.

It did vary across the length of the Giro, but most frequently Greg is pictured with two bottle cages. One is a polished TA cage but the other is a little more tricky. It’s yellow, alloy with a distinctive top, but what is it? Looks similar to an Omas or a Cobra cage, but anyone got a better idea, or even a cage?!

(I think the photo is a Graham Watson one)

Looks like a Specialized cage Motorola used them
Thanks for that. I looked at those early on but discounted them due to the double thickness tube on the top

It appears they are OMAS, Cobra or a custom TA based on the older Criterium cage (he was sponsored by TA at the time and used other types of TA cage throughout the giro and tour). I ended up using a Cobra cage as the top profile matches almost perfectly:

Cobra is one of the marques belonging to Eugenio Rampinelli

also the creator of the REG and ROTO product lines
