26" to 700c/650b conversion, pros and cons?

What about fitting smaller wheels than a bike was designed for?
All this "going large" is helping an offroad bike cover distance, at the expense of ruffty-tuffty and grip.
Sounds like a mature rider upgrade!😁

We've just had a bike dropped in for some work, it's not like these bikes in any way at all!

matt Black 27five frameset,
with 26 tripleclamps and fat bike 26 wheels,
4" tyres with a rizla paper's width to the frame, and coloured bits all over the place, including flouro spoke straws.

Nowadays the trend is that you can fit several diameters in one frame, that is why they say it is a 27.5+ and 29”. Well, for me the 27.5+ would be more a 27.5 and 2.2 tire, not a 2.4.

We have done in the pass. If you ride that Michelin wildgrippers that are 1.8” and after that you go to a 2.1 or 2.2 tire, you have change the wideness and the overall diameter, so … it is the same. I have even go with road bicycle tires (and have a very bad crash) in a MTB … and no problem. But today all has to be perfect … you cannot match sram drive train components with shimano because … a ban light will be on display? I use the chain of sram as always in shimano drive train. They are cheaper or something like that for daily use.

NOTE: Decatlhon still have the Chamaleon in 1.9” and 27.5 diameter, so this tire is perfect for this type of conversions as it gives less diameter over all than a 2.1 or more common nowadays 2.2”, if it doesn’t fit you can go narrower and the 40mm will match with no problem in any 26” frame but it is too narrow for off road and stones touch the sidewall of the rim and gives a uncomfortable ride in rough terrain. I have the WTB Resolut ones in 27.5 and I have go to the 1.9” for that reason.

I went the more sedate route with mine, making a canal path bike with thinner 27.5” wheels and a Rohloff hub. Gets used for rides with the other half, trips to Centre Parcs, Sustrans rides, Downs Link rides and the like. Given the bike a new lease on life.
 
I am firmly in the 'adapt or die' camp :)
It's always good to give some builds a longer test than twice around the car park ;-)
