Hi, wanted some advice. Im looking to get some 24" wheels for a build im doing for my boy. However, looking at what seems to be about has left me wondering if it's a tall order. Im looking to end up with a light bike for him but am on a budget! . that coupled with my lack of knowledge is leaving me struggling a bit!

Cheers for any help.

Second hand might be your best bet, lots of 24inch wheels come up but make sure you have a chance to inspect them as a few are generally knackered due to being favoured by downhillers.

I had my sons one built up using a sale hope hub (£20) and great karma from a guy on here.

You can buy new wheels form the likes of bankrupt bikes on ebay - they had a Vuelta airline rim on a stock disc hub last time I looked.

Details of my son's bike in the link in my signature to miniKens bike.

Cheers for that. I think I might look into buying some new rims and see about getting some built. I have a pair of wheels with ritchey hubs I could butcher for the cause! Just for a ruff idea, what sort of money would I be looking at for getting a pair built? And anyone on here inparticular to ask?

Jeff and Wes at First Flight have 24" Ritchey Vantage Comps in 28 hole in a dark ano color. The problem is trying to locate 28 hole hubs that are affordable. There were some 28 hole Deore's around a year ago. I built a pair up for a 24" wheel Zaskar.

Keep an eye out for an old 14" Kona Hahanna/Fire Mountain or Orange Clockwork frame and build it up with regular 26" wheels. It'll be nicer in the long term and you wont feel gipped off when the 24" is outgrown after 2 years like my mates daugther one was.

Carl.
