22.2mm stem change please help/ advise!

hi, could someone please advise me as i'm having difficulty with this. i bought a 1994 kona hahanna off gumtree for a good price, since i've not been on a older bike for a while now i realised how long the stem is and i would like to reduce the length. its a 140mm velocity stem i would like to drop down to 100 - 120mm but am finding it hard to get a suitable 22.2mm quill stem,

also saw the option of a quill stem adapter which could bring it to modern standards.

please advise me are these adapters any good, or is there any place that does older quill stems, ive been looking on ebay and not much choice at all.

Personally I don't trust stem extenders, maybe irrational.

Just typed in 22.2 stem in fleabay. Plenty cheap to choose from to get a feel for length.
