Looking good buddy.

If my X0 shifter dies as quickly as my last two X9's, I'll be sacking Sram off and gong back to Shimano; Zee mech with a Saint shifter.

Just need to get it dirty now (which won't take long ate mo!).

I've never really liked SRAM stuff, going back to the days when I was a mechanic at the LBS, I just despised it. So I don't even consider it now. I did however set up a mates bike for him not long ago and that was all SRAM stuff, it seemed a lot lot better now days, in fact it was actually quite nice! And I do love the anodised bits they do! But I just love Shimano stuff.

I used to hate the grip shift only stuff but switched when they bought out trigger shifters. The push push idea made sense to me but the big seller was the 1:1 actuation. My old M952 stuff was really sensitive to mud which meant that it needed adjusting all the time. The X9 stuff that I swapped to was much easier to set up and never seemed to need adjusting.

I'm not sure the current stuff is as well made. My nine speed shifters lasted forever whereas my 10 speed ones haven't. The X0 shifter I've bought is a 2014 one so hoping it lasts lint because it's a different design. It does shift better than the X9 and I like being able to change the trigger angle.

If it dies, then I'm back on Shimano.

Are you still on the lookout for some new forks?

Yeah I noticed some of the SRAM features have made their way over to shimano. The push shifting has been a feature I had on my saints, but it's now on most shifters. And the 1:1 actuation now means you can mix and match rear mech and shifters.

I am still wanting new forks, but nobody has any deals on the 55's as yet and very few places even have the 2014 model in stock. I'm gonna hold out a couple of month I think. A brand new set went for £260 on eBay the other day, but didn't have the tapered steerer so I let them go without bidding lol.

So got round to fitting the tyres today.
This is a 2.35 minion next to a 2.35 Hans Dampf.

To me, the maxxis is a much nicer size, not just width ways, but the difference in rolling radius was quite surprising. The Hans Dampf looked to add about an inch in diameter. That was what I didn't like about them. The actual tyres were fantastic. Just looked very clown like on the bike.

The maxxis look much more in proportion. I'm running a minion up front and a hight roller on the back.

I also put a new chain on, as the second hand one I had was too short and caused the bottom jockey wheel to come up and hit the cassette under full compression if the shock. I've left it plenty long enough to allow for that on the new one, let the air out of the shock to check and all is good!

Also washed last weeks mud off it.

Those Maxxis tyres are diddy! My Hans Dampf's are bigger than my 2.5 Minnion Dual Plys that I use for uplifts. I love mine though and doubt I'll use owt else now.

I'm going out on the road bike tomorrow because I'm sick of cleaning the Rune. Thursday night at Cannock was the last straw for me....the puddles were so bloody deep. I got soaked to the skin.

They are quite a bit smaller.... will see how they go when I get out on it. Didnt get time this weekend.

Ill probably flog the Hans Dampfs, I bet ill get my money back for them on eBay as theyve hardly been used.

I know what you mean about being sick of the cleaning.... I tend to go out on a sunday, and dont get back in time to clean the bike in daylight so It usually sits in the garage till the following weekend caked in mud, then gets washed, then gets dirty again the next day.
Not just that, but the mud on my clothes, shoes, car, patio and shower all needs cleaning up too! mind you, I'm doing a lot more this winter than I have for years! I put that down to missing most of the summer due to my collar bone.

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

I sacked off the mountain bike this weekend too in favour of the road bike. It was nice to ride from the front door and get back without having to clean a bike.us shoes, shorts, jacket, helmet etc.

I think the weather for this week isn't going to be too bad so hopefully I can ride without getting covered in muddy water. We don't seem to get so much mud here, it's quite sandy so there's just loads of sandy water waiting to soak you and eat your drive train.

Have you had any more thoughts about forks?

I've more or less decided on the 55's but I'm struggling finding somewhere with them in stock cheaper than £475 which isn't that much below RRP, I think it's due to the 2014 one being out now which is a little lighter.

I've also got my sisters birthday, dads birthday and my mrs brothers birthday in the next few weeks so can't really afford to do it just yet.

Although saying that I've just found a kashima float 36 RLC for £350.....

Wanted to try a longer stem for a while, fancied a gold hope one but they cost a fortune new and it was too much to spend just to see what it felt like.
However, eBay came to the rescue with a 70mm gold hope stem in pretty good nick! Saved myself £50! It actually feels great! But not been out on the trails yet!
