2012 Nukeproof Mega

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

Not ridden it properly yet, but I'm very impressed with the clutch action of my Zee rm, I've got the short arm running on a 11-34 block with a 30t RF narrow wide ring. Had to tweek the b-tension screw to take up a bit of slack on the 11t, but shifts across the block perfectly.

Is it a clutch system?

I'm really sold on the clutch mechs because they reduce noise massively and allow you to ditch the chain guide which saves weight and mor importantly reduces drag. The 10 speed doesn't make an awful lot of difference, just closer ratios in the 11-36 cassette.

Personally, I'd do it and add a narrow wide ring.

Yeah it is a clutch mech, I've bought the bundle anyway on the basis that I can sell it for what I paid as I think it was a bloody good deal.

Zee Rear mech
Zee shifter
XT 11-36T cassette
KMC X10 Gold chain (I love these chains)
Hope Gold Jockey wheels (and standard jockey wheels)

Er yeah, do it!

I'd swap it personally. I didn't think the clutch mechs could make that much difference until I got one. My bike is loads quieter with it and a bonus is that the wheel is easier to take out when you lock the Sram clutch forward.

Is it a short cage mech?

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

Yeah its short cage, bloke only had it all on his bike 2 months and said its only done 50 miles.

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

That's not too bad. I imagine that if you keep it and sell your Saint stuff you'll break even at worst.

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

That's what i was thinking!

I'm thinking the same with the tyres too, I really cant get on with how wide and cumbersome these Hans Dampfs look. So looking at swapping them out for a minion/high roller combo.

Hopefully I should break even after selling the Dampfs.

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

I can't agree with you on tyres though! :(

I love my Hans Dampf's. They're lighter than single ply High Rollers / Minions, tubeless and have a bigger footprint. My High Rollers used to look lost in my 36's, the 2.35's are diddy.

I've never really got on with the Minions but I do like my High Rollers, I just wish they were bigger and lighter.

Re: 2012 Nukeproof Mega *work in progress*

They got that clogged up with mud on my last ride that they ended up about 3 foot wide.

The minion in single ply with a folding wall is claimed to be a bit lighter than the dampf, not sure about the high roller. To be honest I think its more of a perceptive thing, they look big and bulk and therefore feel big bulky and slow.

The tyres grip very well but as a result they feel a bit draggy. Although id probably be tempted if they did a narrower version.
