2010 Bianchi Infinito build

This could possibly be the shortest build thread in { my} history! Bought as a near mint condition frameset, I already had most of what I needed to get it built.
So after cleaning all the components up, I stripped the headset to check and regrease.

This is what I was confronted with when I took the forks out. A loose bearing race that fell out of what should have been a sealed bearing.
The top half of which was corroding into the headtube cup that it sits in. This needed a very careful few taps with a hammer and screwdriver to remove. Followed by the fork race that was rustier than a rat car. Having released the frame of this nasty feature, I cleaned up the top of the fork and headtube with some scotchpad to remove the rust, before refitting another bearing plus lots of grease! I always err on the side of too much and clean up the excess, than to use too little.

So two crown races on top of each other? One for what was the original sealed bearing headset and the rusty one for the caged ball bearings?

Looking good!

More pics needed. I have a love/hate relationship with Bianchi's... Although I love looking at a modern(ish) build on retrobike 😍

It is a normal sealed bearing, just in a state of being totally fucked!

I'm waiting for a pair of pedals and a stem bolt to arrive, frustrating that is all that stopping this bike from being finished. Oh, and another tricolour Elite bottle cage.
I'll take some pictures today as it stands so for
