1998 Marin Bolinas Ridge

Hey Guys I am wondering weather the Bolinas Ridge frame set was any good? I know all Marin's of the 90's were nice, what I mean is how far up the pecking order the Bolinas sat?
I have a Blue one and want to rebuild and maybe repaint, is it worth it?

The Bolinas Ridge was actually the entry level for Marin Offroad cycles if I remember correctly (and I think I do)..........so not very far up the pecking order I'm afraid.

...I think the Marin heads in here are more interested in the other Marin frame you showed in the pics...

Nice . . . I love the early 90's entry level stuff, they make really good get around bikes and tourers, longer chain stays means no heel strike on panniers(ooops more of that boring stuff!?!?)
I am buying another one in the new year from the guy I bought my 91 Muirwoods off, he has a 92 in Black and Neon Yellow same as frame in pics. $50 NZ looks to be the price. . . . I keep joking with the wife that I need to start saving!! LOL

.....you can never get enough retro bikes!! and I like Marin's too. I used to work in a bike shop in the mid 90's and we sold Marin bikes (and other brands too) and they all bring back great memories.

I quite like saving the "dead" one's only been beaten by this BB over about 12 bikes and 2 seatposts (before I seen caustic sodas miracle!) over the same number, the dead ones are very cheap! Sometimes only a frame set other times whole bikes, I try not to spend over $50 per full bike to purchase and try to service what it needs from what I have got over the past couple of years.
Fun. Childish fun, love it.

I had an early 90s (think 1992) Bolinas Ridge. the purple and neon green one. only got rid of it because it was too small for me but regretted it ever since. Picked it up for £10 after someone offered it to me for spares and only needed a new rear wheel.

that is the bike that got me into retro bikes and started my addiction to Marins (and the reason I joined retrobike). Ive had plenty of entry level retro bikes since then, Giants, raleighs, and now Peugeots, (as well as a few apollos as well ) but none of them will ever be the same as the bolinas.

Just snagged one for $35. It’s a flat purple looking blue. I’m thinking it was used very little. Altus component drive train, meh... but it works perfectly. Not sure on year but everything looks early 90’s

Took it for a long ride with my son today. I’m pretty sure it a 20yr old brand new bike. No wear marks on any part.

Scvintage, I have this same exact bike. My neighbor pitched it due to a blown tire and stuck shifters. Was able to free up shifters and replace tires. Do you know the year of this model and anything about its history? Is this a steel or aluminum frame and is it a decent frame? I’m trying to figure out how much money to put in to restore it.

Ps. How do you like the ride and shifting?
