98+ BoTM 1998 --> BotM - single speed special - Now taking entries

:) okay then,
My first ever entry. Here goes sunympholepsy’s 2008 Kona Explosif...
I bought it in a sorry state a couple of years ago. It had a seized seatpost, a hairline crack on the DS dropout, leaky forks, tired transmission etc. I have removed the stuck post with the help of good old PlusGas and a Record vise. The dropout was TiG welded and filed, forks had seals replaced, and the whole bike was rebuilt using some of my favourite components. The spec is:
Frame: 2008 Kona Explosif
(Dedacciai COM 12.5 tubing)
Fork: RockShox Sid Team
Wheels: White Industries Eno rear, and M16 front hubs on Mavic XC717 rims
Tyres: Schwalbe Nobby Nic in 26x2.25
Transmission: W.I. Eno freewheel, Middleburn Uno chainset, SRAM PC1 chain, Xt UN72 bb
Brakes: Magura MT8 Carbon with Magura Storm SL rotors
Bars: Nitto Bullmoose
Seatpost: Nitto S65
Saddle: Flite Titanium (reissue)
Skewers and seatpost collar: Salsa
Pedals: MKS Allways
Grips: Brompton lock-on foam grips

I use it couple of times a week in my local woods. It is usually covered in mud but it scrubbed up well. Please excuse crap photos. It’s a last moment entry, and the weather is really poor at the moment so I had to photograph it indoors...

Xtaffa's muck-besplattered 2000 Gary Fisher Big Sur, very recently single-cogged.

Making up the numbers no doubt, but if handling and rabid straining at the leash, balls-to-the-wall charging capability counts alongside looks, confident it'd be in the running!

Build/spec, bar the velosolo conversion kit and 16t sprocket plus no-name tensioner from sjs cycles can be found here:

Sums up all the fun of singlespeeding. It's amazing how much more fun it gets by losing 3kg of geary stuff and fitting rigid forks.
