1997 Nuke Proof Reactor hardtail

I sent off the data for the braces as well. Waiting for the reply on the cost. A friend of mine has another contact of some guy down in San Diego who could do the job as well so I'll get multiple quotes. the conundrum is: if you have somebody make those regular schedule, they'll get it done rather quick and good quality, if you have someone make those parts as a favor on the side, they'll be cheap but you'll wait forever because there's always some paying job that takes precedence, so for 6 braces you'll wait forever, and if something doesn't work out with the machining quality you can't really complain. I wish we had a metal CNC mill at work... I would run the crap out of it on the weekend! Unfortunately we have to outsource all metal work so no luck for me. Just plastic parts...
As far as the logo goes, I'm looking into laser engraving a flat piece of brass then bend it to the tube shape. Should be a lot cheaper.
I'm hoping for you that the bearing doesn't end up costing a fortune. Make sure you get an Angular Contact Bearing, a regular radial bearing would fall apart quickly when used under axial load!

"those logo's are expensive,...
i gave them all away ,... i had 4 or 5"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I would have totally needed those. I was thinking about posting a wanted ad here see if somebody has one, before I go off making one, but I guess the chances are pretty slim. I talked to some guy that could make them for around 50 bucks but it seems like he can't do the cut outline shape so I would need to fiddle around with the dremel and thin files to get the outline done (major pain in the ass, but possible).
To Defiant: if you know of anybody who might have the logos, let me know!

i could inform.
Unfortunately i do not have any nuke (parts) left, might have 1 carbon wrapped bar but that would be it.
Gave everything away,.. at one point i had 5 nukes

Ooh, a carbon wrapped bar. That would certainly be of interest to me and my nuke proof build, will go nicely with the bar ends and hubs I'll be using. If you want to let them go to a nuke owner looking to do a nuke themed build, I'd love to liberate them from you if you are willing to part with them?

Wow, I just looked at your progress, fantastic! You have done some impressive work. Do you need further measurements? I like the the idea of the logo engraved on the front braces. I was out in Moab for a week riding and when I got back I have been immersed in catching up with work! On the plus side I did pick up an Ibis Szazbo XL frame and if all goes well it will be finished this weekend. Cheers

The measurements and CAD time is done. Got the new prototype linkages done and tested, no interference. Now it's making them time. I'm still waiting on quotes from the two CNC guys I sent the data to... on sidejob parts like this we're not getting prioritized. I just got a set of BB thread cutters delivered, since my frame doesn't have any threads that's going to be a major bodge job cutting those myself. I already reamed out the seat-tube to take a 31.8 seat-post. That's the problem with raw frames like this with dubious provenience, some essential jobs aren't done to them and no bike shop in 300 miles radius will touch those with a 10ft pole. So now I have to buy my own tools to do everything myself. I'll keep you guys posted about the progress. I'll be suuper busy at work until next Tuesday, then I have some time to chase down some stuff.

Ive made progress too,of sorts anyway. I need to get as much detail about the bearings and fastenings as I can, as my contact reckons they can source them, or failing that, make them. I know you've posted various bits and pieces, but if you can confirm the accuracy,I can pass the details along and should hopefully be able to source everything. I think the main area I'm sketchy on is the bolts, as not having a brace to play with, I can't measure anything up, know whether washers are needed etc. detail about them, any close up pics would be a great help.

Sorry to ask, but I'm hoping I can source a few extras as well, depending on price of course, as I'm hoping they won't be astronomical as you've indicated they might be.

Thanks.

Re:

I will have to call the guy that owns the bike-shop where the Nuke is being displayed as he is shutdown for November to move to a new location. Is it just the bolts and bearings on the braces that you need pictures and descriptions? Give me a list and I will get them as soon as I can.
Cheers

The bearings in the linkages are INA HK0912 needle bearings. The sleeve they run on is unfortunately a custom job and I haven't found anything even close to it, I'll still have to look into the plastic washers/seals but they might be custom too. I have found sleeves for those bearings but they're just a simple cylinder and with all the work involved in making those fit, one might as well make copies of the original sleeves.
